Google search interest

Five years of photographer search signals

The comparison covers U.S. Web Search from August 1, 2021 to July 31, 2026 for the exact search terms “boudoir photographer,” “wedding photographer,” and “family photographer.” Google scales this fixed comparison from 0 to 100, so it measures relative interest rather than search volume.

Family-photographer interest averaged 21.0 in the most recent 52 weeks, up from 14.8 in the prior 52 weeks. Wedding-photographer interest remained the largest of the three terms at 57.0, while the lower-volume boudoir term averaged 4.0 and should be read with extra caution because sampling noise is more visible at low levels.

“Independent businesses” means Census nonemployer establishments in NAICS 54192. Average receipts are total receipts divided by establishments; they are not median revenue, owner income, or profit. Each Google Trends state index is normalized independently from 0 to 100 for one search term, so compare states within a term rather than scores across terms.

How to read it

Two related datasets, two different scopes

Nonemployer Statistics publishes state totals for NAICS 54192, Photographic Services. That category is broader than portrait photography and includes businesses with no paid employees that meet the Census receipts threshold.

County Business Patterns provides the narrower NAICS 541921, Photography Studios, Portrait, for businesses with paid employees. The two series are shown beside one another but are not treated as identical populations.

A high count may indicate a large population, a high concentration of photographers, or both. It does not reveal boudoir demand, booking volume, price, profitability, or how many listed businesses remain actively marketed today.

Google Trends uses a sampled, normalized index. State scores are normalized separately for each term, and equal values do not imply equal numbers of searches. Search interest is shown beside business supply as context, not combined into an opportunity score.
